December is a good month for Maji Milele. We just won two new tenders for prepaid meters and monitoring software. One tender is for remote communities in Wajir (North Kenya). We expect installation in March next year. 30.0000 beneficiaries will then get real sustainable access to water.
The other contract is for 50 prepaid standpipes in urban Nakuru, where large groups of families live together on joint private premises. Water supply is limited to a few hours per day leading to long queues and limited access because land owners fear high bills. With the new prepaid meters, access to safe water will be 24/7 and unlimited, except that people have to pay (a very low price) per liter. How that works?
