Wajir is one of the very dry areas of Kenya. Water is a scarce resource and sustainability of water infrastructure is key. If water points break down it immediately leads to a crisis. People may have to walk for 20 km or more to get access to water elsewhere. The problem is often being addressed by trucking in water from very far. Yet this is very expensive and not sustainable. Wajir water company now wants to install prepaid water meters and monitoring software in four different villages in Wajir county. Maji Milele is expected to install the meters by May or June 2015.
